The Potomac River Development Laboratory

Located at a bend in the Potomac River, the Potomac River Development Laboratory, PRDL, was the workplace of the scientists who invented Tovex.

Note the building that are located along hillsides. The allowed gravity to move materials that might detonate if pumped.

The main R&D offices were located in a large, two-story house that could almost be dubbed a mansion. DuPont acquired it with the acquisition of the land and subsequently converted for business purposes. The head of PRDL in the early days was Hal Ring, who was replaced by Frank Loving, after Ring took on the role of R&D Manager for Commercial Explosives, and moved to headquarters in Wilmington.

Laboratories, machine shops, and a shooting grounds were built here as well. These structure are somewhat visible in the photograph above. They are on the near side of the Potomac River in the upper right of the photograph.
