  1. Hello Alex,

Thank you for the kind words. My Broken Sword project relates Yamabuki’s adventures when she is in her very early 20s. When the average age of a Japanese woman living in an urban area was ~32, that makes her middle aged in the Broken Sword story.

Some readers wanted to know more about Yamabuki when was younger. Cold Blood is set when she is just turning 17 springs and it is her very first time away from the Taka compound. She’s traveling on her own, hardly ten days after leaving her home, when she finds there are those who wish to take her on.

The question she is asked by the action of the story goes back to the Kung Fu series when Kwai Chang asks Master Kan, was it?, how one can walk through the world in harmony when there are those who seek to contend with us?

What will the girl of 17 springs do when others draw steel against her? What can she do when someone, wielding a nodachi!, decides to be her opponent and cannot be dissuaded otherwise?

Cold Blood is a 19,000 word novella currently in final editing, which I am sending to alpha readers.

PS And! She encounters spider crabs at the strait. (Thinking of the spider you blogged about).
